RT-PCR is the gold standard in testing for COVID-19
The Medical City Clark Molecular Laboratory has the capability to conduct RT-PCR and to release the results over a reasonable turnaround time.
The RT-PCR test is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in the upper and lower respiratory specimens collected from individuals suspected of having COVID-19.
The Rapid Test, on the other hand, detect the presence of the viral proteins (antigens) expressed by the COVID-10 virus in a sample from the respiratory tract of a person.
The Antigen Test is a rapid diagnostic test suitable for point-of-care testing that detachs the presence or absence of an antigen.
